The US Consumer Product Safety Commission, in collaboration with Applica Consumer Products Inc. of Miramar, Florida, reported a deliberate inspection of some 159,000 Black and Decker Spacemaker 12-cup programmable coffee machines.
Incidents / injuries: The company has received 1,276 reports of handle breakage, including 68 reports of consumption or potential cuts.
Presentation: This assessment covers 12-cup Black and Decker® brand coffee machines to be installed under an office. In some white or dark versions, the words “Dark and DECKER® SPACEMAKER ™” are printed in the upper right corner. The coffee machines show some computerised reminders in the upper left corner and five round catches above the water supply. The 12-cup espresso pots are made of glass with a moulded handle with a similar shading as the machine and a silver metal section running around the glass near the bottom.
The verification includes model numbers SDC740, SDC740B, SDC740BR, SDC740C, SDC740DIS, SDC740R, SDC750, SDC750C and SDC750DIS. The model number is located on the underside of the coffee maker directly under the water reservoir.
Sold by: Large retailers in Cross Country from July 2008 to May 2012 for approx. 50-80 USD.
